SOUTH Africans will be able to purchase the new Amarok single cab from Volkswagen dealers at the end of May.

The Amarok has proved popular in South Africa as the retail of the Volkswagen Amarok double cab range started in the country on 18 March 2023 and in just two months, 710 units have already been sold in the local market.

“We are pleased to be extending the new Amarok range to include the single cab; the workhorse of the range. The Amarok single cab is a key model for increasing our volumes and market share in the rental and corporate segments as well as supporting our sub-Saharan Africa growth plan by retailing in key African markets,” said head of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Mark Handley.

The Amarok single cab will be available in two turbo diesel engines.

The 2.0 TDI 110 kW is a four-cylinder engine with a 5-speed manual transmission which produces 110 kW of power with maximum torque of 350 Nm. Its top speed is 170km/h and fuel consumption is 6.9 litres/100km.

The 2.0 TDI 125 kW is a four-cylinder engine with a 6-speed manual transmission which produces 125 kW of power with maximum torque of 405 Nm. The top speed is 180km/h and fuel consumption is 6.9 litres/100km and 7.1 litres/100km with 4MOTION.

The Amarok single cab 110 kW derivative comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels, a full-size steel spare wheel, height-adjustable driver seat, LED headlights, driver/passenger/side/curtain airbags, Bluetooth connectivity including wireless App-Connect, 10-inch colour touch-screen infotainment screen, 8-inch partial active-info display for the instrument cluster, electronically foldable side mirrors, multi-function steering wheel and front centre armrest.

The Amarok single cab 2.0 TDI 125kW 4×2 and Amarok single cab 2.0 TDI 125 kW 4MOTION derivatives offer additional specification which includes 17-inch Combra alloy wheels, rear differential lock, a trailer hitch, raised suspension and improved payload capacity of over 1.2 tons. The load compartment width between wheel arches measures 1 227 mm in length to accommodate a standard European pallet on all new Amarok Single Cab derivatives.

The only optional feature available in the new Amarok single cab range is the exterior paint colours. Available exterior colours include clear white, midnight black, bright blue, light grey, dark grey, deep red, bright beige and mid blue.

Recommended retail prices range from R499 000 to R646 000.

The new Volkswagen Amarok single cab comes standard with a 4-year/ 120 000 km warranty and a 6-year anti-corrosion warranty. The 125 kW models include a 3-year/ 60 000 km service plan. The service interval for all models is 15 000 km.
