THE Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency (ECRDA) announced the appointment of Simpiwe Somdyala as the agency’s chief executive officer.
With a 30-year track record in SMME development, enterprise finance, and agribusiness, Somdyala brings expertise and a passion for economic transformation and entrepreneurship to the organisation.
Somdyala joins the ECRDA from Amadlelo Agri where he served as CEO, overseeing the company’s dairy and agricultural operations. “His experience in driving inclusive growth, poverty alleviation, and food security will be invaluable in our mission to empower communities,” the ECRDA said.
Somdyala has held various leadership positions at Old Mutual Limited, the Old Mutual Masisizane Fund, Hans Merensky Holdings and African Management Services Company (AMSCO).
He also established his own management consulting firm, focusing on economic development, strategy formulation, and SMME enhancement.
Somdyala’s leadership extends to various directorships and trustee roles in esteemed organisations, including the:
- Small Enterprise Foundation (SEF)
- Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC)
- Wilderness Foundation Africa
- Nelson Mandela University Council
- Old Mutual sub-boards
The new CEO’s qualifications, include a B. Com (Hons) and an MBA, making him well-equipped to drive ECRDA’s vision forward.
