THE Coega Development Corporation (CDC) announce the appointment of Themba Koza as the new chief executive officer, effective 1 April 2025.
Dr Luvuyo Bono, chairperson of the CDC board said: “This decision follows a comprehensive recruitment process undertaken by the CDC board to identify a leader capable of steering the organisation towards its mission of being the most successful Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in South Africa and enhancing its reputation across the African continent and beyond.”
Koza, a long-serving member of the CDC team, is recognised for his integrity and extensive expertise in attracting both foreign and domestic direct investments. His impressive background includes significant experience in commercial and operations management, and a proven track record in executing large capital projects and leading multidisciplinary teams. The CDC said Koza’s knowledge of legislation applicablicable in the Public Sector such as the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), the Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act (PPPFA), and King IV principles, along with his commitment to sustainable stakeholder relations, positions him as an invaluable asset to the CDC.
With a Masters Degree in Science from Rhodes University, a National Diploma in Chemical Engineering from Cape Peninsula University of Technology, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainability from the University of Cambridge UK, Koza’s academic credentials are complemented by his ongoing professional development, including coursework for an Executive Masters in Business Administration from the University of Cape Town and a Management Development Programme from Wits Business School. He is also a registered Prince2 Practitioner, showcasing his proficiency in complex project management and is currently enrolled with the Edinburgh Business School for a Master of Business Administration in International Business.
Having held various positions within the CDC since his initial appointment as executive manager for health, safety, environment and quality in 2003, Koza has played a pivotal role in the growth of the Coega SEZ and the diversification of CDC’s business operations. His leadership has been instrumental in the development of the Nelson Mandela Bay Logistics Park and in expanding the CDC’s mandate to include broader infrastructure and non-SEZ services, according to the CDC.
“The CDC board extends its heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Themba Koza on his well-deserved appointment as CEO. We look forward to his visionary leadership as the CDC continues to grow and excel in its mission to foster economic development and infrastructure growth in South Africa and beyond,” said Dr Bono.
