BREAKING into new markets is not a choice; it’s a necessity. That was the clear message from Xolani Sithole (pictured), head of International Logistics at Bidvest International Logistics, during his panel appearance at the Naacam Show 2025 in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Speaking on the discussion “From Local Strength to Global Reach: Scaling Component Exports”, Sithole stressed that while Europe and the USA remain essential trading partners, South Africa cannot afford to overlook the growth potential on its continent.
“We need to break into new markets that we haven’t been in before, so that we can be competitive with our pricing,” said Sithole. “We have been focusing a lot on Europe and the USA, but the rest of the world is focusing on Africa. South Africa also has to start focusing on growing in Africa.”
As the automotive sector targets a threefold increase in exports by 2030, Sithole reinforced that efficient, innovative logistics solutions are the gateway to both African and global market expansion. He emphasised that export success depends on more than just manufacturing excellence; it demands fast, safe, and cost-effective product movement, underpinned by infrastructure, technology, and freight visibility.
On the exhibition floor, Bidvest International Logistics’ (BIL) presence went beyond showcasing solutions. Ntsika Rayi, one of BIL’s delegates managing the stand, reflected on the week’s activities. “We spent almost a full week here preparing, and it has been a very fruitful experience. As we are primarily responsible for freight forwarding, we connected with potential clients and engaged with existing ones who are expanding into the automotive industry. It was truly rewarding.”
BIL’s presence at Naacam underscores its commitment to working closely with automotive manufacturers to streamline their supply chains and open access to global markets. The company has long championed initiatives that drive trade growth and enhance South Africa’s competitiveness on the international stage.
The company’s track record of delivering efficient, compliant and innovative logistics solutions has made it a trusted partner to some of the country’s largest exporters. It prides itself on navigating complex customs procedures, optimising freight routes and implementing technology-driven tracking systems.
Sithole concluded with a call to action for the industry: “Getting our products to global markets isn’t optional, it’s urgent. By strengthening our logistics capabilities and exploring untapped African markets, we unlock the true value of our manufacturing sector.”
