FORTY percent of the energy used to manufacture VW Polo and Polo Vivo models at Volkswagen Group Africa’s Kariega plant is now green energy, Martina Biene, chairperson and managing director: Volkswagen Group Africa shared in a social media post.
She congratulated the production and logistics team led by Ulrich Schwabe for this “great achievement”.
“At Plant Kariega, we set ourselves an audacious goal to be carbon neutral in line with the Go to Zero strategy of the Volkswagen brand. Last year, the production and logistics team set themselves a target of 30% green energy used for vehicle manufacture and I am proud that this team over-achieved this target by 10%. At Plant Kariega, the recently-installed solar panels provide us with a capacity of 5.2 MWp which can produce up to 7 680 MWh energy annually.,” she said.
“Sustainability is at the core of what we do at Volkswagen Group Africa and as an organisation, we want to preserve the environment for future generations to also enjoy,” Biene added.
